A Friend.....

Has asked me to join a Ladies Night/Church/Bible Study.

I really, really want to spend time with my friend but I don't really want to study the Bible.

Been there, done that.....

What am I supposed to do?

I'd really like to have your input by Tuesday night.

Thanks so much!!

I've been in the same boat for years. Coming from a very religious background, my family and friends are always asking me to join them for church outings, Bible studies, etc. At first I avoided it like the plague but lately I've gone for the sake of a)seeing the other side of my opinions, and b) to point out to them what they are missing in their logic (or lack thereof).

Here's a way to look at it: It's more than "studying the Bible," it's grappling with what it has to say and dealing with everyday life, even if that means saying that it's wrong. If they get mad at you, that's their problem, but if they're really your friends and you keep it civil, it shouldn't be a problem. And who knows? You might learn something that you can apply to your life. You don't have to be a Christian to "love thy neighbor."

Don't go.

Suggest an alternative outing for just the two of you. Express to her how much you would enjoy spending time with her but going to a group outing, any group outing, would defeat that purpose.

Maybe a hobby together, scrap booking, stamping, walking, fitness, shopping, bargain shopping, thrift store shopping, coffee, sitting in a park and watching the squirrels. Anything that promotes visiting, sharing, laughing and friendship.

Thanks ladies!

I slept on it and I woke up deciding not to go. In the past, Bible studies have seemed like a brainwashing session and I'm not up for any of that.

She plays the keyboard before Church on Wednesday nights and I've decided to go and hear her play. I probably won't be staying for the sermon after though.

Thanks again and hugs!!

Hi Tracey, I'm sorry I'm a bit late to this, work is crazy busy right now.

I think your resolution sounds like a great idea though. You should support your friend without having to listen to bible babble if you don't want to.

Does your friend know about your lack of religion, or is this an effort to convert you.

Thanks Got doubts and Snowbrush,

All my friend knows is that I'm "Faith Challenged." I told her that one day. This is the sweet girl I used to work with and I love her like she's my sister or daughter.

She has restored my faith in some people and she is a wonderful friend.

I can't wait to see her tomorrow night.

She doesn't know that I've considered myself an Atheist for quite some time now. She does not know about this blog or my others.

Thanks again!
